Lukashenka about road haulage: Small Belarus chokes great Russia

Belsat / BelTA

Neither Russia nor Kazakhstan want equitable relationship in road haulage matters in the nascent Eurasian Economic Union, the Belarusian President said Friday.

Accessing the performance of the Belarusian Association of International Road Carriers BAMAP, Aliaksandr Lukashenka stressed that Belarus is intent on taking a proper place on the international market of transport services.

“A case in point: the matter was very seriously discussed by the three presidents at the meeting in Minsk,” news agency BelTA quotes the head of state as saying. “The situation is absolutely controversial: neither Russia nor Kazakhstan are willing to accept equitable relations in the union as far as this field is concerned. I asked them why. Because Belarusian road carriers are way better than Russian and Kazakh ones and they cannot compete with us. I was surprised at the ability of small Belarus to ‘choke’ great Russia”.

Mr Lukashenka added that Belarusian road carriers are indeed in the class of their own in the ex-USSR and Europe on the whole.
