Central Election Commission secretary urges opposition to get involved in the presidential election campaign.

The government is actively getting ready for the presidential election while the opposition isn’t CEC secretary Mikalai Lazavik reckons.

Officials are contacting citizens, they are studying their demands and solving problems, he said. “It means that the authorities are trying to solve as many problems as possible before the election,” BelaPAN quotes Lazavik. Such civil organizations as Belaya Rus and the Belarusian Republican Union of Youth are ‘actively getting ready for the election and conducting instruction meetings’, the official believes.

At the same time, the Central Election Commission is getting no information about the activity of opposition organizations and parties preparing for the election. “The opposition are having problems trying to agree on the single candidate,” the official said. It testifies to the fragmentation of the opposition, he thinks. “We would like the opposition to take a more active part in the preparation for the presidential election,” the CEC press secretary claimed.

The presidential election is likely to be held on November 15.
