The Brest region’s coalition of opposition forces plans to nominate around 200 representatives for precinct election commissions for December’s presidential vote.
As Ihar Maslowski, leader of the regional chapter of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party "Hramada" (BSDP), told BelaPAN, an agreement to this effect was reached at talks held by local members of the BSDP, the Belarusian Popular Front, the United Civic Party, the Spravedlivy Mir (Just World) Belarusian Party of the Left and the Movement for Freedom.
The organizations now have to put forward specific candidacies for nomination for precinct election commissions.
"We’ll see how many opposition representatives will be included in precinct election commissions," Mr. Maslowski said. "And then we will be able to say whether the election will be open and transparent as the authorities promise or another falsification of vote results is being prepared." He said that the regional coalition would later discuss the number of its observers at polling stations across the region.
