02-10-2009, 13:54

Alyaksandr Milinkevich, a former presidential candidate and leader of the Movement for Freedom, met with Dutch Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen while staying in the Netherlands on October 1.

Mr. Milinkevich told the minister about the situation in Belarus and preparations for the Belarusian European Forum and once again suggested that Schengen visa fees should be lowered for Belarusians, said the press office of the Movement for Freedom.

The visa issue is of great importance for the spread of European values and support of Belarus’ pro-democratic forces.
After his meeting with the Dutch foreign minister, Mr. Milinkevich took part in a round-table conference during which he discussed issues concerning the relationship between Belarus and the European Union with representatives of the Dutch foreign ministry and non-governmental organizations engaged with Belarus, the press office said.

Mr. Milinkevich is expected to soon meet with members of the international affairs committee of the Netherlands’ House of Representatives, according to the press office.
