A famous Ukrainian writer Serhiy Zhadan was detained in Minsk on February 10. He was held at the police station until the morning of 11 February. According to Belarusian law enforcers, the Ukrainian was banned from entering Russia through the involvement in terrorist activities.

Serhiy Zhadan had come to Minsk to visit the Book Fair and Streltsov Literary Festival.

I had to spend the night in a cell. In the morning, the police wrote a long explanation and questioned me about terrorism. Eventually, they put a stamp in the passport to ban me from entering Belarus for an indefinite period, Mr Zhadan wrote in his Facebook on the morning of 11 February.

The Embassy of Ukraine sent a note to the Foreign Ministry of Belarus on account of thee deportation of Mr zhadan.

On Sunday afternoon, the ban on Zhadans entry into Belarus was lifted.

Belsat.eu asked how it was possible. The writer answered:

There was public pressure, support of my fellow writers, there were talks between politicians. I think all this gave a positive result.
