Gen. Fralou creates Army Officers Association

Army Officers Association NGO may be created in Belarus. This news was spread by General Valery Fralou at a meeting with his friends and colleagues on occasion of missile troops and artillery day in Minsk on November 19, BelaPAN reports.

Valery Fralou noted addressing to them the Army Officers Association would focus on "rendering support to our fellows and their families and aiding those in a difficult situation".

He also said that the activity of the organization could be wider. "The current problems in the Belarusian economy may lead to a social outburst. Having weight and influence in our circles, we can set our aim as preventing senseless and ruthless outbreaks with human losses, God forbid," he said.

Fralou thinks that protests should not go beyond legal environment. In his opinion, these actions can include: supporting presidential candidate Dzmitry Uss in preparations for holding a referendum on amendments to the Electoral Code and carrying out elections under new rules. Fralou said the organization would be ready "to contribute to formation of territory defence troops as consultants, advisors and specialists".

"We'd like give people to understand that military men have serious experience and do not stay aside from the processes in the society and stand ready to do their best to improve the situation," the general said.

Valery Fralou suggested electing imprisoned presidential candidate Mikalai Statkevich as an honourary member of the organizing committee to create the Army Officers Association.
