Siarhiej Kavalienka asks for pardon

Siarhiej Kavalienka told his father and brother that he had sent Aliaksandr Lukashenka the letter containing the only line that reads "I ask you to release me". He has not admitted his guilt.

The relatives of the political prisoner say the prison administration wants to make Siarhiej Kavalienka a persistent violator of prison rules and regime.

Siarhiej Kavalienka became known for his Christmas action when he put de-facto banned white-red-white flag on the central Christmas tree in Viciebsk, Belarus.

Mr. Kavalienka was sentenced to 2 years’ forced labour for his deed. However, for violation of the terms of the punishment, Siarhiej Kavalienka was sent to prison to serve 25 months’ term.

Siarhiej Kavalienka was recognized the prisoner of conscience by international human rights organizations.
