UDF, European Coalition Set to Cooperate During Local Elections Campaign

The United Democratic Forces (UDF) and the European Coalition plan to cooperate during the local elections campaign, Anatol Lyabedzka, co-chairman of the UDF and chairman of the United Civic Party, told reporters in Minsk on February 2.

Leaders of the European Coalition, Mikalay Statkevich and Syarhey Skrabets, were present at Tuesday's meeting of the UDF board, Mr. Lyabedzka said. A decision was made to recommend the regional organizations of the two coalitions to work together during the campaign, he said.

In particular, they could coordinate nominations of candidates and representatives to election commissions and cooperate in observing the vote, Mr. Lyabedzka said.

Although the two coalitions are not going to have a common list of candidates, they could agree to prevent their candidates from running against each other in the same district, he said.
