Syarhey Aleynik appointed as Ambassador to the United Kingdom

Alyaksandr Lukashenka on Tuesday removed Syarhey Aleynik from the position of deputy foreign minister and appointed him as ambassador to the UK, according to the Belarusian leader`s press office.

Mr. Aleynik, now 47, was appointed deputy foreign minister in January 2009.

A graduate of the Minsk State Teachers Training Institute of Foreign Languages (currently Minsk State Linguistic University), Mr. Aleynik also served as Belarus` consul and charge d`affaires in the Netherlands and as ambassador to the Holy See and the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order (a Catholic order based in Rome).

In addition, he served as Belarus` permanent representative to the United Nations and other international organizations based in Geneva.
