Vasil Bykaus 90th anniversary marked today

The famous Belarusian writer was born in the village of Bychki, Ushachy District.

Most Vasil Bykaus works were dedicated to war and showed peoples moral choice in dramatic moments of life. He was criticized for defaming the Soviet life style and his works were censored in the USSR. The uncensored versions of the writers books began to come out only at the end of his life.

Vasil Bykau died in 2003. Dozens of thousands people came to bid farewell to him in Minsk.
