Journalist Andrei Poczobut is arrested

Grodno journalist Andrei Poczobut was arrested on June 21 in his apartment. He was searched. Computer was confiscated.

According to Radio Liberty, the journalist is already under prosecution. Poczobut, sentenced to 3 years of suspended imprisonment , is accused of defaming the president for publishing on websites "Belarusian partisan" and "Charter 97". Arseny Nikolsky is holding the inquest. During the interrogation, the journalist refused to answer questions, he was taken to the Grodno Prison.

According to his wife Oksana Pochobut, new criminal case was opened under Part 2 of Article.368 (insulting the president, committed twice), BAJ informs.

We remind, on July 5 the court of Leninsky District of Grodno recognized correspondent of the Polish "Gazeta Wyborcza" as guilty under Part 1 of Article 367 (defamation of the president) of the Criminal Code for a series of articles criticizing the authorities. Poczobut was sentenced to three years imprisonment suspended for two years. The trial was closed.
