Belarus has offered the European Union to extend its project called, "Support for Quality Infrastructure in Belarus: Food Safety," Viktar Nazaranka, head of the State Standardization Committee, told reporters in Minsk on Thursday.

He said that Belarus was eager to borrow the European Union`s experience of the accreditation of food safety testing laboratories and their management, and of market oversight.

"When we speak about accreditation we mean the possibility of introducing very powerful modern information technologies that allow our producers and consumers to have absolutely objective information. This is a very difficult task that requires investments and European experience," said Mr. Nazaranka.

The official emphasized the importance of developing food safety testing laboratories and expanding their functions.

"We expect our cooperation with the EU and our partner relations to continue. What matters most is that the EU should support our initiatives, for which we are grateful to them," said Mr. Nazaranka.
