Belarus pushed into WTO – Lukashenka

Belsat, following BelTA

Belarusian president Alyaksandr Lukashenka has questioned the advantages of Belarus’ entering the World Trade Organisation ‘in the current conditions’.

“Just recently they said we were not welcome there. Today we are being pushed for taking this step. By whom? Do we have any well-wishers in the world? No. There is tough competition in the economy. When our competitors are pushing us for doing something I always think about the reasons why they are doing so,” he said on Tuesday.

According to Lukashenka, as two powerful unions – the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership and the Trans-Pacific Partnership have been established, the World Trade Organization has little choice. The WTO has actually exhausted itself, Lukashenka and his colleagues believe.

This very day, however, the Belarusian leader ordered to energize the process of negotiations on Belarus’ accession to the World Trade Organization, Prime Minister Andrey Kabyakou told reporters.
