Belarusians return tax money after shopping abroad.

In the three quarters of this year, citizens of Belarus have received in the “Technobank” 2 million 190 thousand euros using the ‘Tax Free’ checks. This amount is 630 thousand euros less compared with the sum returned in the same period last year. This was reported by the head of the individuals’ banking unit Nadzeya Yerakhavets.

Belarusians often returned ‘Tax Free’ checks of the ‘Global Blue’ company from the Lithuanian, Polish and German stores, said Nadzeya Yerakhavets.

Amounts that Belarusians receive using the ‘Tax Free’ checks could reduce due to the new tax rules that were introduced in Belarus on April 14. Now, when traveling abroad more than once every three months, Belarusians can import duty-free goods for the amount of no more than 300 euros and a maximum weight of 20 kilograms.

‘Tax Free’ is value added tax (VAT) return system. VAT is returned for purchases made by foreign citizens when traveling abroad.
