The European Union is going to allocate about €150,000 to create and promote the brand of the Augustow Canal, that will soon become visa-free for foreigners.

The Belarusian part of the Augustow Canal is now a destination in the international project meant to provide technical assistance with the sustainable development of the tourism industry in Belarus.

The project will be implemented over the course of 12 months through November 2017.

As part of the project a strategy for the sustainable development of the tourism and recreation park Augustow Canal will be put together. The park will get a brand name, all kinds of promo materials like videos, printed leaflets, and commercials.

In addition to the brand of the Augustow Canal, similar decisions will be designed for Polatsk, Myadzyel, Mstislavl, Pruzhany and Kamyanyets districts. There are plans to create working groups locally to analyze the state of local tourism tourism infrastructure and suggest strategies for the development of tourism.

It is expected that the project’s implementation will help increase tourist numbers by at least 20%.
