Lukashenka approves draft framework agreement with European Investment Bank
Alyaksandr Lukashenka has, by his presidential edict, approved a draft framework agreement between Belarus and the European Investment Bank (EIB), reported the press office of the Belarusian leader.

The head of state has empowered the economy ministry to hold talks on the draft agreement and sign it on behalf of Belarus, the press office said.

In September 2016, the European Commission approved the mandate of the European Investment Bank for cooperation with Belarus.

The EIB is the only bank owned by and representing the interests of EU member states. Minsk asked the EIB for financial assistance in 2009.

In November 2010, Jean-Eric Holzapfel, the then head of the EU Delegation to Belarus, said that the EIB`s cooperation with Belarus depended on the general relationship between Brussels and Minsk.
