EU cancels Russia-EU summit and expands sanctions

The European Union has cancelled the EU-Russia summit appointed for June 3. The EU member states have refused from bilateral summits with Russia.

The EU leaders have also agreed to expand the black list of Russians who will be affected by the sanctions in connection with the annexation of Crimea, BBC quotes President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy.

The updated black list of 33 people will be published on Friday, French President François Hollande said on the first day of the EC summit. The EU balk list matches the American one a lot, he noted.

The European Commission will also prepare ‘third-level’ sanctions (trade and economic restrictions for Russia), German Chancellor Angela Merkel said. They will be imposed if the conflict exceeds the borders of Crimea.
