Sold for $18 million

Le petit pâtissier was sold for $18 million at Christie’s impressionist auction in May 2013.

It was a top lot and became the most expensive painting of the artist. The painting was the culminating image in a series of six portraits of young pastry chefs.

“By the time he painted the present canvas around 1927, he had achieved nothing short of international fame,” the auction house said in a press release.

Sold for $17.2 million
