Lukashenka gets 'a good sign' and notes warming of relations with West

On Monday, the head of state met in Minsk with Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz.

On May 4, in Minsk, Alyaksandr Lukashenka met with the Federal Minister for European Integration and Foreign Affairs of Austria, Sebastian Kurz. They spoke not only about the Belarusian-Austrian relations, but also relations between Belarus and the European Union.

Lukashenka expressed an opinion that today the relations between Belarus and the West, are "somewhat warming up". "We would like to see your country and the West in general take an even closer look at Belarus and draw the appropriate conclusions, as well as take several steps in the right direction," BELTA quotes the head of Belarusian state.

Alyaksandr Lukashenka stressed that Belarus is in contact with Austria more than with other countries. The current visit of the Austrian Minister, he said, is "a good sign". He hopes that there will be in future "more ambitious steps to expand our cooperation."

Kurz said that Austria is ready to contribute to the positive dynamics of relations between Belarus and the European Union. The Austrian minister spoke of "difficult times" for Eastern Europe in connection with the Ukrainian crisis.

Also, Federal Minister for European Integration and Foreign Affairs of Austria, Sebastian Kurz, met in Minsk with Belarusian Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makey.
