KGB detains group that tapped journalists, functionaries and security officials

A criminal groups that was tapping phones, Skype, Viber, WhatsApp and social networks and offices has been detained, KGB press service reports.

KGB has detained the organizers and conducted over 80 searches. About 1500 clients were revealed. They paid the criminals on the Internet.

The deputy head of a Minsk District Department of the Interiors, member of the administration of Hrodna Province ECM, members of the Investigation Committee, state and independent journalists, customs officials, military men, security officials and heads of state and private enterprises were among the group’s victims.

Special electronic equipment and foreign currency were confiscated from the malefactors’ places of residence and work.

A criminal case for getting secret information illegally in an organized way has been started against the suspects. They are facing up to 4 years of imprisonment. All of them have been jailed.
