Makei suggested to Brussels to start consultations on the basic agreement between Belarus and the EU

Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Uladzimir Makei made the relevant statement in Brussels.

Uladzimir Makei made a speech during the seventh annual meeting of the ministers of foreign affairs of the Eurasian Economic Union member states and Eastern Partnership Initiative participating states in Brussels, Belgium on 23 May.

Speaking during the plenary session of the ministerial meeting, Uladzimir Makei said it is advisable to start consultations to determine the format and the volume of the future basic agreement between Belarus and the European Union.

On the sidelines of the forum Uladzimir Makei met with several heads of European government agencies, ministers of foreign affairs of the Eurasian Economic Union member states and Eastern Partnership Initiative participating states.

While in Brussels Uladzimir Makei held negotiations with European Commissioner for Energy Union Maros Sefcovic. The sides discussed the development of the energy dialogue and cooperation between Belarus and the European Union. The Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs informed top officials of the European Commission about the measures Belarus takes to ensure the safety of the future Belarusian nuclear power plant in Astravets taking into account international requirements and standards, BelTA informs.
