Ex-senator Hanna Shareika amnestied after 2.5-year sentence

Ex-senator and director of Vitsebsk poultry farm Hanna Shareika was freed today after the Supreme Court sentenced her to 2.5 years in prison and a Br31 million fine. The defendant had spent two years in jail prior to the trial and eventualy was amnestied.

Hanna Shareika left the court room in a storm of applause.

The ex-director of Vitsebsk poultry farm was accused of power abuse when choosing suppliers. According to the prosecutors, her actions did damage to the state and citizens’ interests although did not result in any material loss.
