Poroshenko apologized for Belavia plane incident
A telephone conversation of Alyaksandr Lukashenka and Petro Poroshenko took plave on Thursday at the initiative of the Ukrainian side.

Poroshenko apologized for the incident with the Belavia plane and said that “the responsible will be punished”.

The presidents agreed that the appropriate services will soon hold consultations on cooperation in the field of security to prevent future similar incidents.

On October 21, the Belarusian plane flying from Kyiv to Minsk was told to return to the Kyiv airport by the Ukrainian Security Service.

After landing in Kyiv, the law enforcement agencies of Ukraine got one of the passengers – a citizen of Armenia – off the plane.

After refueling, the plane flew to Minsk and the passenger in question was released, he flew to Minsk the next flight.

According to the official website of Lukashenka, during a phone conversation, the presidents “discussed the agenda of bilateral relations” and “the prospects of development of trade-economic relations”. It was noted that “despite the decline in recent years’ bilateral trade, there is a positive trend, which needs to be secured”. It was concluded that “work on the removal of barriers in mutual trade is conducted in a constructive way”.

During the phone conversation, Lukashenka and Poroshenko agreed on a personal meeting — it should take place before the end of this year. Foreign Ministries of the two countries will determine the date of the meeting.
