Minsk’s pharmacies running out of flu medications

BelaPAN

BelaPAN’s random phone survey of pharmacies in Minsk on Monday morning found that there was an acute shortage of face masks and antiviral drugs for treatment and prevention of influenza.

These shortages occurred because pharmacies did not expect such a brisk demand, Alena Fisenka, head of the epidemic prevention department of the Minsk City Hygiene and Epidemiology Center, explained in an interview with BelaPAN.

She noted that the matter of supplying retail pharmacies with antiviral medications was being attended to by the Ministry of Health and promised that "this slight shortage of drugs will be eliminated tomorrow, if not today."

Ms. Fisenka welcomed the fact that Minsk residents seek to buy influenza antivirals and face masks.
