Lukashenka denies depositing money in Cyprian banks

There are no billions belonging to Lukashenka in Cyprian banks, the Belarusian President told reporters on April 5, 2013.

"When it comes to Lukashenka’s billions, I can only repeat: pull them," he said. "After Cyprus took 60% any person who will be able to finds these billions might have the rest. Take them all - not only the money of Lukashenka, but also his friends, associates and relatives".

Lukashenka confessed that he got accustomed to the fact that people make suchlike suggestions aiming to pique him.

"Upon my word, if I had billions there I would spend the money on modernization because it's something to get teeth into," he said.

According to the head of state, the Cyprian crisis has affected Belarus in no way. "There is no Belarusian money stored there because our banks hardly have connections with them. It might become our issue for concern only because new points of crisis are developing in the EU which is our main export market," Lukashenka stressed.

The Belarusian President and his family are rumoured to have taken vast sums of money out of the country.
