The Belarus leader on June 5 met the head of Russian parliament's upper house Valentina Matviyenko and Russian governors in Minsk.

The Eurasian Economic Union is in for political and military integration, Alyaksandr Lukashenka said. No sanctions can ‘throttle’ Russia, he noted. Lukashenka also commented on the recent presidential election in Ukraine.

"Ukraine has elected its new President,” RIA Novosti quotes the Belarusian president as saying. “I think that we will cooperate with the new president and government because our people live there.”

Aliaksandr Lukashenka congratulated Ukrainian president-elect Petro Poroshenko on his election. Our president was invited to the inauguration ceremony to take place on June 7 in Kiev.

He has been ‘on good terms with Aliaksandr Ryhoravich [Lukashenka] for a long time’, Petro Poroshenko said recently at a briefing in Kiev. His personal example ‘should assure Aliaksandr Lukashenka that a fair victory and the whole world’s support are a good thing to strive for’, Poroshenko added.
