Lukashenka wants to arrest another “Senator“

Belarusian President convene a special decree calling on Thursday an extraordinary session of the Council of the Republic - the upper house of the Belarusian parliament.

According to the document signed on August 11, the Council has to meet to "a decide to authorize the start the investigation in relation to a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and in case of necessity to consider other issues."

In July Vital Kastahorou Mogilev businessman and a member of the Council was arrested. He was detained by Militia at the Council meeting, and colleagues from the senatorial benches deprived him of immunity on the spot. We still do not know what was the reason for his detention.

By law, the senator could lose immunity by the agreement of the other members of the Council or automatically when it is suspected of treason or other particularly serious crime or been caught red handed.
