Lukashenka appoints new defense minister

Belarus-born Major-General Andrei Raukou replaces Yury Zhadobin, a native of Ukraine, as a new defense minister of Belarus.

Alyaksandr Lukashenka has appointed a new Minister of Defense of Belarus. Instead of Yury Zhadobin, a native of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defence will be managed by Major General Andrei Raukou, born in Beshenkovichy District of Vitsebsk region. Earlier Raukou was commander of the North-Western Operational Command, reports BelTA.

Andrei Raukou is 47 years old. He finished with distinction the Moscow Higher Military Command School (in 1988), Command and Staff department of the Military Academy of Belarus (1999), the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces (2005). He worked his way from lieutenant to general. Andrei Raukou was appointed Commander of the North-Western Operational Command in November 2012. Biography of the new defense minister can be found here.
