Belarusian President Alyaksandr Lukashenka says his country has "successfully" tested a new missile system.

At a meeting with Prime Minister Andrey Kabyakou and National Bank Chairman Pavel Kalaur in Minsk on June 16, Lukashenka said Belarusian military experts have managed to create the new missile system "with very limited financial resources."

"Today is a happy day for us in terms of security and defense.... A test launch of missile complexes was conducted. The missile hit a target just 1.5 meters from the designated target. It was the first salvo," he said, adding that the second test-firing landed "just 10 meters" from its target.

Lukashenka said the tests were "an ideal result" and that the missile systems were created in Belarus during a two-year period.

He did not give any other details of the new armament.

Lukashenka ordered Kabyakou to arrange awards for the personnel who worked on the weapon.
