Over 31 percent said to have voted early in parliamentary elections

As many as 31.29 percent of all eligible voters cast their ballots during the September 6-10 early voting period in Belarus` elections for the House of Representatives, reported the central election commission.

According to the commission, voter turnout in the five-day early voting period preceding the main polling day on September 11 was 35.23 in the Homyel region, 34.56 percent in the Vitsyebsk region, 33.79 percent in the Mahilyow region, 32.75 percent in the Hrodna region, 30.68 percent in the Minsk region, 28.52 percent in the Brest region and 25.89 percent in the city of Minsk.

As many as 27.95 percent of the Belarusian citizens resident abroad cast their ballots at polling stations in foreign countries.

Voter turnout was reported at 3.92 percent on the first day, 5.71 percent on the second day, 7.08 percent on the third day and 6.98 percent on the fourth day of early voting.

As many as 25.9 percent and 26 percent of all eligible voters cast their ballots during the early voting period in the previous, 2012 and 2008 House of Representatives elections, respectively, according to the central election commission.

Any voter may cast a ballot early and is not required to produce proof of his/her inability to vote on the main voting day.

Belarus reportedly has a total of 6,978,295 eligible voters.
