Anatol Lyabedzka, the leader of the United Civic Party of Belarus, livestreamed a protest rally by representatives of the Belarusian diaspora in Brussels.

The rally ‘Where Is Hanchar?’ is devoted to Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s political rivals who went missing in 1999-2000.

Viktar Hanchar, a harsh critic of president Lukashenka, would have turned 60 years old on September 7, 2017. He disappeared under puzzling circumstances in September, 1999.

On the eve of the Eastern Partnership, the protesters urged the European Union not to cooperate with the Belarusian leader. According to them, he is Vladimir Putin’s ‘Trojan horse’ and ‘puppet’.

In October, the European Union expressed readiness to welcome Belarus president Alyaksandr Lukashenka at the summit. It is the first time he has received a personal invitation to the Brussels. For years, the Belarusian leader had been denied entry to EU member coutries. However, on November 21 it became known that Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makey would head the Belarusian delegation at the upcoming event. The reason for such a decision was not given.
