The Commissioner for the European Neighborhood Policy will discuss with the Belarusian leadership and the opposition forces (separately) Belarus-EU relations, human rights and regional cooperation.

On January 30, European Commissioner for the European Neighborhood Policy and negotiations on the EU expansion will visit Belarus.

The European official will meet with Alyaksandr Lukashenka, Prime Minister Andrey Kabyakou and Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makey.

The visit is part of the framework involving implementation of the decisions of the last Eastern Partnership summit.

The page of the EU Delegation in Belarus reports that the meeting topic will include the tasks agreed upon at the Brussels summit.

The Commissioner will also meet with representatives of the opposition and participants of the ‘Most’ project.

According to Hahn, relations between the EU and Belarus have recently developed.

“We have significantly expanded our cooperation,” the Commissioner said.

“Cooperation has been intensified in areas of common interest. The European Union has increased support for initiatives to develop regions and the private sector, support for civil society, as well as assistance in the field of energy efficiency. The EU efforts will continue to focus on intensifying cooperation with all segments of the Belarusian society. My visit will focus on the relations between the EU and Belarus, human rights, as well as regional cooperation and jointly achieved progress in implementing the document “20 specific tasks before 2020″, designed to provide Belarusian citizens with tangible improvements in their daily lives,” said Johannes Hahn.

The last time the official visited Belarus was in 2015.
