Belarus Plans To Sign EU Partnership Priorities In 2018

The partnership priorities between Belarus and the European Union (EU) may be signed before the yearend.
This became known after the meeting of foreign ministers of the *Eastern Partnership (EaP) member states and the EU in Luxembourg on 15 October.
“Unfortunately, our partners have recently added a number of additional provisions we have to study. I think we will elaborate a position on it very soon. There’s hope that the documents will be signed by the yearend,” Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei told the ONT channel.
The documents cover the partnership priorities, agreements on visa facilitation and readmission. “Considerable progress has been achieved on all of them, but still no real progress ordinary people can see,” the foreign minister noted.
Makei stressed that the Eastern Partnership should be aimed at rapprochement and unification, not confrontation directed against third countries. He particularly praised the program of economic cooperation and urged to put the economic issues at the top of the list.

Besides, the minister hold talks with Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn.
“We discussed the entire spectrum of matters of our cooperation with the EU, including the signing of the partnership priorities anytime soon. These partnership priorities set forth our cooperation program for the near future,” Vladimir Makei said.
The Eastern Partnership (EaP) is an initiative providing an avenue for discussions of trade, economic strategy, travel agreements, and other issues between the EU and Belarus, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine.
