Young activists fined over protest against hazing in Belarus army

Dzyanis Mandzik, head of the Belarusian Popular Front Youth and Hanna Smilevich, the group's former leader protested against hazing in the Belarusian Army on Tuesday. The rally was part of the anti-hazing campaign ‘Ticket to Death’. The protest was disrupted by the riot police almost immediately. Arseniy Dzyadok was detained together with Mandzik and Smilevich but was let off on the same day because he is underage.

Dzyanis Mandzik and Hanna Smilevich were brought to court handcuffed. Mandzik was fined BYN 735 and Smilevich BYN 612 roubels for taking part in an unauthorized action, rights defenders report.
