Belarus will always support the territorial integrity of Georgia, Alyaksandr Lukashenka said at the meeting with Georgian PM Mamuka Bakhtadze on August 23.

Mr Bahtadze expressed gratitude to Lukashenka for the development of good relations between the two states and mentioned the Belarusian President’s visit to Georgia in 2015, Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s press service reports. “I would definitely like to thank you and your people for the principal support of our territorial integrity and sovereignty. The Georgian people will never forget it,” he stressed.

Belarus’ position is principal as regards any country, Lukashenka replied. “It can happen to any state and it is inadmissible,” the President added. Russian troops occupied South Ossetia and Abkhazia during the Russo-Georgian War in 2008. Both the territories declared independence but it has not been recognized almost anywhere in the world. Belarus has not recognized it either.
