U.S. And Belarus Sign Bilateral Open Skies Agreement For The First Time

Belarus and the United States have signed an Open Skies Agreement. It is the first bilateral air transport agreement negotiated between the two countries, the U.S. Department of State reports.
Apart from Belarus, the U.S. also signed the agreements with the Bahamas and Kenya.
Open Skies agreements establish rules to facilitate growth of an efficient, market-based international civil aviation system. Based on comity and reciprocity, they create new opportunities for travelers and businesses.
The policy eliminates government interference in the commercial decisions of air carriers about routes, capacity, and pricing, freeing carriers to provide more affordable, convenient, and efficient air service for consumers.
The United States has achieved Open Skies with over 100 partners from every region of the world and at every level of economic development.
Belarus is the member of the Treaty on Open Skies which allows for surveillance flights to be carried out over the territory of the 35 signatory countries. The county ratified the treaty in 2001 and came into force a year later.
