Over 140 people registered as observers by territorial election commissions

Territorial election commissions for the December 19 presidential election had registered more than 140 people as observers as of October 11, a spokesperson for the central election commission told BelaPAN.

Nearly 100 of the observers were nominated by non-governmental organizations, 15 by "workers' collectives" and 13 by political parties.

Thirty of the nominees of NGOs represented Belaya Rus, 13 the Belarusian National Youth Union and 11 the Belarusian Union of Women.
Eleven of the nominees of political parties represented the Communist Party of Belarus, one the Belarusian Popular Front and one the United Civic Party.

The country has 155 territorial election commissions for the presidential election.

The nomination process for membership in the precinct election commissions begins in mid-October. The deadline for the formation of the commissions is November 3.
