Mihalevich asks for political asylum in Czech Republic

"I am sure that the Czech Republic should give political asylum to him because it corresponds to our tradition", - said Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg.

Ales Mihalevich has asked the Czech Republic for political asylum. The Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg has informed about it, reports the Internet portal Сeskenoviny.

"According to the information we have received from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, he has already asked the Czech Republic for political asylum, - said Schwarzenberg. – I know Mr. Mihalevich personally and I am sure that the Czech Republic should give asylum to him because it corresponds to our tradition. Mr. Mihalevich promotes the same values as we do and I appreciate his courage".

Former presidential candidate Ales Mihalevich informed in his audio statement earlier that he was abroad and that he was fine. Ales Mihalevich is accused of Dec.19 case. He was released from KGB detention on recognizance on February 19. Alyaksei Mihalevich made an announcement about tortures in KGB prison afterwards and added that he had torn the agreement on cooperation with KGB he had been forced to sign before his release on recognizance.
