Minsk City Court Will Consider the Appeal of Ex-candidates Statkevich and Uss, and also Journalist Khalip

On July 19 Minsk City Court will consider appeals from the decision of the court of Leninsky district, which sentenced the ex-candidates for presidency Nikolai Statkevich and Dmitry Uss to 6 and 5.5 years of imprisonment to be served in medium security colony.

Ex-candidates were found guilty of organizing mass riots on December 19 in Minsk. Along with them on May 26 were sentenced Alexander Klaskouski - to 5 years of imprisonment, Alexander Kvyatkevich - to 3.5 years, Dmitri Bulanov - to 3 years, Artem Gribkov - to 4 years of imprisonment with compulsory treatment for alcoholism. Their appeals are also scheduled to be considered on July 19, reports Interfax-Zapad.

On the same day the appeal on the sentence of the journalist Irina Khalip will be considered, she is wife of the former presidential candidate Andrei Sannikov, who has been sentenced to 2 years of imprisonment with suspended sentence of 2 years. On the present case also goes Sergey Marcelev - head of the electoral headquarters of the former presidential candidate N. Statkevich, who was sentenced to two years of imprisonment with probation period of 2 years. Pavel Severinets, the head of the electoral headquarters of the candidate Vital Rymasheuski was sentenced to three years of imprisonment and directed to the open type institution.

On the last Friday the satisfaction of the appeal of the ex-candidate A. Sannikov was refused.

Earlier, Minsk City Court dismissed the complaints on the number of prisoners’ sentences under Article "mass disorders" of the Criminal Code of Belarus.
