Bezsmertny: Ukrainian politics is slightly different from Lukashenka's “cheating“, but of course there is a common

The actions of Ukrainian authorities, sentenced the former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko to seven years in prison, reminds trading of political prisoners carried out by the official Minsk. This opinion in an exclusive interview with "Tovarisch.online" expressed the former Ukrainian Ambassador to Belarus Roman Bezsmertny.

He believes that in Ukraine the thesis of Belarusization of power is still alive.

"Is it objective? - asks R.Bezsmertny - conceptually speaking - yes".

According to the diplomat, "the Ukrainian authorities has long ago taken the path of using the situation around Tymoshenko in their game with the European structures, putting Tymoshenko's freedom in relation to Europe's behavior".

"The Ukrainian authorities blackmail the EU through their actions in relation to the former Prime Minister and use the Russian factor", believes R.Bezsmertny.

It happens, in his view, something like this: the Ukrainian authorities think if the EU accepts them it will be good, if not they will go to Russia.

"Of course, the Ukrainian situation is slightly different from the behavior of Mr. Lukashenko in relation to political prisoners and how he does, I'm sorry, "cheating" on Moscow and Brussels, but of course there is a common", said the former ambassador.

Today Pechersk District Court in Kiev sentenced the former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko to seven years in prison without the right to hold public office for three years. The court also sustained the claim of "Naftogaz Ukraine", which demanded from Tymoshenko a compensation for damages caused by signing agreements in January 2009 in the amount of 1.516 billion hryvnia.
