Lukashenko Relieves Poluden of his Post of Deputy Interior Minister

Former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs - chief of police on public safety Eugeni Poluden has been dismissed. The decree on termination of his duties in the internal affairs and relegation to the reserve of the Armed Forces was signed by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on December 27.

As reported in the Office of the President, the dismissal of Deputy Minister of Interior has been triggered by Eugeni Poluden's "misconduct, defamatory rank of a police officer".

On December 8, the General Prosecutor's Office of Belarus initiated a criminal case against former Deputy Interior Minister Eugeni Poluden, appointed to this position in the summer 2009.

December 15, he was charged with abuse of power or self-dealing (Part 3 Article 424 of the Criminal Code of Belarus). The previous measure of restrain has been preserved - Eugeni Poluden will remain in custody.
