“In jail quite serious things could happen with me, even up to death“


Former presidential candidate Andrei Sannikov who was released from prison "Vitba-3" on April 14 wrote an appeal for pardon "in order to stop provocations". This was stated by the politician on April 17 at a press conference in Minsk.

At the same time Sannikov did not go into details of the circumstances under which he wrote a petition for clemency. "I wrote an appeal for pardon. I wrote, that I ask to show humanism. I did it consciously. I do not want to comment on anything else", BelaPAN quotes the politician.

At the same time Sannikov said that in prison he was put under pressure. "I thought, In jail quite serious things could happen with me, even up to death", he said

We remind, Sannikov was released from prison "Vitba-3" on the basis of the decree of Alexander Lukashenko for a pardon. He told about this reporters in Vitebsk on April 14.

Sannikov said that he was summoned to the administration of the colony at about half past five in the evening and was told to collect things. The politician did not rule out that he will was transferred once again, as has been happening repeatedly. However, Sannikov announced that it was released under the president' decree for clemency. He was given back the documents and personal belongings and were taken from the colony to the railway station, where he contacted his family by a pay phone.

Afterwards, the local community activist Sergei Parsyukevich came to the station for Sannikov, who took him to his home. There the free politician met with reporters.
