17 criminal cases started against housing and utilities officials

The State Control Committee has already started 17 criminal cases for the unjustified increase of payments for housing and utilities, deputy head of the Financial Investigation Department of the State Control Committee Yury Kardymon announced on ONT on February 28. Initially, there were 13 cases.

Criminal proceedings were opened against the head of a housing and utilities enterprises in the Brest region.

Kardymon: “The payment for cleaning and lighting of auxiliary rooms became a separate service and was removed from the list of technical services on January 1, 2016. However, enterprises charged citizens for the same service twice. The damage done totalled more than 900 million rubels.”

The increase of the housing and utilities payments drew a wide response from society. Alyaksandr Lukashenka harshly criticized housing and communal service officials for the increase of tariffs on February 22. The increase was ungrounded, he reckons. In a public speech, the president ordered to put the handcuffs on the culprits publicly.
