Tragedy in Minsk region: Six persons die in well

Four local residents and two rescuers are dead. A criminal case has been initiated over the accident.

On Tuesday evening a resident of Krupki district (Minsk region) went down to a 6-meter well intending to clean it. In the midst of the process the man lost consciousness and fell to the bottom. His neighbors came to help; the menentered the well one after another trying to pull casualties out, but also lost consciousness and fell down.

The rescuers arrived at the scene and took the bodies of all victims out. But two rescuers were poisoned by gas vapors which were accumulated gathered in the well. They were admitted to hospital, but died without regaining consciousness.

A forensic examination is to be carried out.
