How many people live in Belarus?


The National Statistics Committee has published data on the demographic situation in Belarus for the first six months of 2016.

As of July 1, 9.5 mln people live in Belarus. During the first half of the year 58,266 children were born in our country – 1718 kids more than in the same period of the previous year. Minsk (10,904) and Brest (9,252) are leading by the number of newborns among the Belarusian cities.

The number of deaths reached 61,297 people. Comparing to January – June 2015, it decreased by 1,329 persons (2.1%). The natural decline in population in January-June of 2016 amounts to 3,031 persons, which is down by half if compared to a year earlier.

For the H1 of 2016, 26,644 couples got married in Belarus while 16,459 divorced.
According to the statisticians, migration gain was increased by 4,621 persons. In the main, Belarus is attractive for Russians, Ukrainians and Kazakhs: 6,756 people have moved from these countries over the specified period.
