Minsk to Berlin iIn 12 hours: new high-speed train will be launched in December

High-speed train Moscow-Berlin will make its first run from Kursk railway station in the Russian capital on 17 December. On its way the train will be making stops in three Belarusian cities − Orsha, Minsk and Brest.

The carriages for the train named Swift are manufactured by the Spanish Patentes Talgo S.L. They are equipped with a system of an automatic change of the width of wheel sets, which would significantly reduce the time needed to switch from the 1,520mm Russian gauge to the 1,435 mm European gauge at Brest station in Belarus.

The train will be leaving the Central railway station in Minsk on Saturdays and Sundays at 21.09 p.m. and arrive at Berlin Ostbahnhof station 12 hours later, at 7.19 a.m. local time.

Ticket price will range from 289, 83 BYN (~$152/€139) in a sleeping car to 403, 50 BYN (~$212/€194) and more in first class.

Swift will be departing from Berlin on Sundays and Mondays at 18.50 p.m. with the arrival in Minsk at 9.12 a.m. next day.

On the way from Moscow to Berlin, the train will stop in Smolensk, Orsha, Minsk, Brest, where it will change track in just 20 minutes. Then it will pass Terespol, Warsaw, Poznan, Rzepin and Frankfurt.

The train will also offer quicker trips between Minsk and Moscow – travel time will make 8 hours. The trip from Minsk to Warsaw will take 7 hours. Ticket prices start from 150 BYN (~$79/€72).

Swift train consists of 2 chair cars, 9 sleeping cars, and 5 first class cars with a VIP-compartment, some of which have a private shower and toilet). The train also has a compartment for people with disabilities, a snack bar and a dining car.
