Two book collections printed by Francisak Skaryna and currently stored in Belarus will be exhibited in Italy, Lithuania, Poland and the Czech Republic this year on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of Belarusian book printing.

In particular, the exhibitions will take place in Vilnius, Krakow, Prague and Padua, four of the cities where the Belarusian printing pioneer spent some time.

A 10-book 1517 collection titled The Book of Job will be provided by the National Library of Belarus. A collection of 18 books of the Small Travel Book, published in Vilnya (currently known as Vilnius) in 1522, will be supplied by Belgazprombank.

“Francisak Skaryna is a person who not only contributed to Slavic culture but also had an influence on European culture,” Viktar Babaryka, chairman of the board of Belgazprombank, told reporters in Minsk on March 3. "We decided to retrace Skaryna`s footsteps and celebrate the 500th anniversary of Belarusian book printing in cities closely connected with his life."

Apart from the books, visitors to the exhibition will be offered a virtual reality tour of "Francisak Skaryna’s workshop."

The exhibitions will kick off in Vilnius on May 4 and come to an end in Minsk in mid-September.
