In the run-up to the Second European Games in Minsk in 2019, the Belarusian Interior Ministry has arranged three-month English language courses for policemen.

“The classes are meant to teach policemen to talk to foreigners and answer their potential questions.

A hundred people are enrolled in the courses at the moment,” said Dmitry Mazanik, head for professional education at the Professional Training Department of the Central Personnel Directorate of the Interior Ministry.

There are plans to train over 400 specialists who will be in charge of public safety during the Second European Games.

The officers study such topics as”Description of appearance”, “Document check”, “Assistance in case of car failure”, “Violation of public order”, “Questioning suspect and interviewing a witness”, to name a few.

In 2017, heads of several departments of the Interior Ministry went to Minsk State Linguistic University to improve their English language and communication skills.

Refresher training courses at regional law enforcement agencies have already been held in Minsk, Gomel, Mogilev, and Brest.

The language courses are provided by the higher education institutions.
