Sviatlana Sakhanenka won her second gold medal and Dmitry Loban claimed silver at the 2018 Winter Paralympic Games in Pyeongchang on Wednesday, March 14.

Making the whole country proud!

The Belarusian got a champion title after clocking 4:29.9 at the women’s 1.5km sprint classic final.

Her rivals from Russia and Ukraine crossed the finish line 14.1 seconds and 15.7 seconds later.

Silver went to Russia’s Mikhalina Lysova, bronze – to Oksana Shyshkova.

Earlier Sviatlana Sakhanenka won gold at the 15km vision impaired race and bronze in the women’s 6km in biathlon.

Wednesday was a triumphant day for the Belarusian national team as Dmitry Loban also clinched the men’s 1.1km sprint silver.

The Belarusian crossed the finish line the same time Andrew Soule of the United States did.

The two finalists were separated only by a photo finish. Bronze went to another American athlete – Daniel Cnossen.

Belarus is currently eighth in the medal count with nine – three gold, four silver and two bronze – medals.

The 12th Winter Paralympics in PyeongChang will be over on 18 March.
