COVID-19 In Belarus: 4,779 Infected, Record 575 Cases In 24 Hours

The press service of the Healthcare Ministry reported the latest statistics on the number of coronavirus cases in the country.

4,779 people with coronavirus infection are registered in Belarus. 342 patients have recovered and 582 were discharged from hospital, 42 patients died. Recall that as of 16 April, 4,204 cases of coronavirus were reported, 40 people died. Thus, 575 news cases have been confimred in the past 24 hours.



This is a record number of cases per day since the outbreak. Healthcare Minister Vladimir Karanik also made public the number of conformed coronavirus cases by regions: Minsk – 2308, the Vitebsk region – 1,282, the Minsk region – 588, the Gomel region – 193, the Mogilev region –112, the Brest region – 112, the Grodno region – 79.

The outbreaks are registered in small towns: Myadel district – 65 cases, Osipovichi – 32 cases, there is a large number of pneumonia in Dokshitsy, 20 confirmed cases of coronavirus, 2 people are on ventilators, in Beshenkovichi – 7, in Liozno – 8.

The Healthcare Ministry connects the increase in the number of cases with the increase of the number of carried out tests. According to Deputy Healthcare Minister Yelena Bogdan, the trend of registering 300-400 cases a day will last another for two-three weeks.

Experts mostly register not imported cases, that is the virus is transmitted from person to person within the country. The peak incidence in the country is expected in late April-early May.

The WHO advises Belarus to postpone public events, introduce physical distancing and distance learning, create opportunities for remote work and reduce the movement for the elderly and people with chronic diseases.
